Vocational Areas
Beauty Therapy
Beauty Therapy offers learners the opportunity to work in a commercially functioning salon where they learn about facials, manicures, massage, nail art, pedicures, make up, general salon duties and health and safety.
Bricklaying
We work with Northumbria Youth Action, North Shields, to offer further vocational choices. Bricklaying offers the opportunity to learn skills in building different wall types including brick corners and flemish bonds, damp proofing, cement preparation and the presentation of work areas.
Business Administration
Business Admin gives learners the opportunity to learn about word processing, data handling, filing, photocopying, handling post, reception duties, health and safety and ergonomics. Some students have the opportunity to complete an external placement.
Retail and Customer Services
Customer Services introduces learners to how best to deliver a reliable service. They will also learn about buying, pricing, display and advertising.
Environmental
The Environmental Programme prepares learners for a career in renewable energy and is focussed on the installation, maintenance, design and production of renewal energy technologies.
Hairdressing
Hairdressing: learners perfect skills in shampooing, conditioning, styling, blow-drying, health & safety, salon duties, communication and team working in a fully-operational salon. Some learners may have an opportunity to complete a placement in a local salon.
Horticulture
Horticulture offers a full range of greenhouses, poly-tunnels, bedding and hard landscaping areas where learners learn about propagation, plant care, vegetable production, garden design, lawn maintenance. landscaping, planting and health and safety.
Hospitality
Hospitality and Catering has its own working restaurant where learners have the opportunity to learn about food hygiene, health and safety, food preparation, customer service, food storage, counter service and general cleaning duties.
Information Technology
Information Technology offers training in data handling, word processing, desktop publishing, databases, spreadsheets, health and safety and ergonomics. At present this is offered at Level 1 only.
Joinery
We work with North Tyneside Skills and Enterprise Centre, Wallsend, to offer further vocational choices. Joinery gives learners the opportunity to learn a variety of woodworking skills including bench joinery, construction, woodworking skills and the safe use of a wide range of tools.
Motor Vehicle Maintenance
We work with Northumbria Youth Action, North Shields, to offer further vocational choices. Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair includes the servicing of vehicles, type fitting, exhaust systems, the use of equipment and Health and Safety.
PC Repair
We work with Resources, North Shields, to offer further vocational choices. Be Your Own PC Doctor offers the opportunity to learn about basic maintenance of a computer including diagnosing faults, fixing common problems, cleaning hardware, optimising performance and organising files and folders.
Painting and Decorating
Painting and Decorating boasts a purpose-built training area where learners are able to practise their skills in preparing surfaces for decoration, painting techniques / effects and the use of tools and equipment.
Small Animal Care
We work with NACRO, Byker to offer Small Animal Care. Learners have the opportunity to work with a variety of animals including rabbits, chinchillas and many more gaining experience in animal care and welfare.
Warehousing
Warehousing and Retail offers the opportunity to learn about stock control, manual handling, health and safety, pricing goods, customer service and presentation of stock. There is the opportunity for some learners to complete an external placement in a local shop.
